The Process
The Request:
When I first got the request, I was really excited because I knew it was going to be a challenge but I wanted to see if I could adapt my brands style onto a more conservative approach.
BrainStorming:
When I heard that the client wanted a clergy outfit, I immediately started my research on the elements of clergy apparel. One thing I noticed about a lot of clergy outfits is that they are all big and bulky and doesn’t really show any other elements of the wearer’s character than their religious beliefs. I wanted to change that.
The design Process:
I sketched the design; My thought process while sketching the garment was to add personality to the robe, making the robe more tight fitting (not too much because it still needs to be appropriate), keep some elements from the original preachers robe, and gold accents!
Once the sketch was done, I took it to the manufacturer to do a bireifing on the design. We discussed elements such as what type of fabirc, the density, intricate details, linings, and the color palette.
The whole objective for me was to create a piece that not only shows off the beauty of the wearer, it also gives more character to the preacher so that the congregation could relate to her more. CLOTHING HAS A BIG INFLUENCE ON HOW PEOPLE PERCIVE YOU AND WELL THE SOAK IN YOUR CHAACTER.
The Final Outcome
The final piece WAS A BABY BLUE COTTON TWILL FABRIC WITH SATIN LINING. it was detailed with gold along the sleeves, waist, neck, and chest area. My client was very pleased with the outcome and the garment had garnished many compliments from the people at the service. Many people were impressed and swapped contact information with me so that I could design garments for them. Overall, this was a wonderful experience and challenge that I will never forget!
